Itanagar: In solidarity with the security forces, the people of Kunsa village in Longding district on Thursday staged a protest against the Naga militant group NSCN (K-YA) for reportedly firing at the Assam Rifles post at Kunsa, sources said.
“A day after the failed attempt by NSCN (K-YA) insurgents to infiltrate from BP-157-158 and fire towards the Assam Rifles post at Kunsa, the infuriated villagers of Kunsa village staged a massive protest in Kunsa village on 11 Aug 2022,” stated a press note.
This incident took place a day after the incident of firing on Assam Rifles troops by suspected NSCN (K-YA) and ULFA (I) from across the Indo-Myanmar border at Pangsau Pass in Changlang district wherein one JCO suffered a minor injury in his hand in the operation which had briefly ensued.
Holding placards, the villagers raised slogans against the militant group, condemning the “latest” firing incident and stressing the need for restoring peace in the area.
At a first, villagers burnt the effigy of self-styled major general Payong Konyak of NSCN (K-YA) blaming him for the incident.
The villagers of Kunsa village, including women and children, came out in strength and unanimously voiced their protest against the insurgents’ nefarious activities and expressed solidarity with the security forces.
