Imphal: The State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), Manipur, in association with the NSS (National Service Scheme) Cell, Manipur University, organised a Mega Blood Donation Camp as part of the observance of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2026 with the theme: One drop of Humanity, Give blood, Saves lives. The programme was held today at Auditorium, Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal.
The camp was held on the sidelines of the NSS Foundation Day 2026 which was attended by dignitaries such as Karam Shyam Singh, MLA, Langthabal Assembly Constituency, Prof. R.K. Hemakumar Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Naorem Praveen Singh, Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of Manipur, and Dr. L. Dayalaxmi, Director, SBTC, Manipur.
Regarding the blood donation camp, Dr. L. Dayalaxmi, Director, SBTC said that this initiative aims to promote voluntary blood donation and raise awareness of the critical need for blood. She added that it also seeks to foster a culture of voluntary blood donation among the youth community and build a sustainable donor base for the future.
With a special focus on youth engagement, she further said that the Mega Blood Donation Drive is being organised from 17th September, 2026 to 2nd October, 2026. She stated that the programme particularly aims to involve young people, especially NSS volunteers, in promoting the voluntary blood donation movement. She appealed to everyone, particularly the youth, to come forward and contribute to strengthening the voluntary blood donation movement.
Dr. L. Dayalaxmi highlighted that there are mainly two types of blood donors — voluntary donors and replacement donors. Voluntary donors, she added, are those who come forward willingly to donate blood without expecting anything in return. Replacement donors, on the other hand, are usually family members or relatives who donate blood when a patient requires blood.
She explained that the main focus is on increasing the number of voluntary blood donors, because a safe and adequate blood supply can be ensured only when there is a strong voluntary blood donation system. She said that they are also giving special importance to first-time blood donors. Once a person donates blood for the first time, she added, they are encouraged and retained as regular voluntary donors. She informed that the main objective is not merely to encourage someone to donate blood once, but to motivate them to continue donating regularly whenever they are eligible.
Around 70-80 donors turned up for the blood donation camp.
