Shillong: The opposition Congress in Meghalaya on Friday suffered yet another jolt with the mass resignation of Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) members.

At least 400 youth Congress workers led by its General Secretary, Fernandez S Dkhar quit the party by submitting their resignation at the Congress Bhavan here.

Dkhar accuser that the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee led by its president Vincent Pala has neglected the MPYC members.
He said the State Congress and AICC acted in an arbitrary manner by dissolving the present body of the MPYC before the election to elect the new members.

Dkhar said that by convention the old body continues to run the affairs of youth members of the party till the new body is constituted through an election.

However, he said that convention was not followed and the Pradesh Congress and the AICC acted without consultation and dissolved the present body before the election.

“At present, we have here around 400 members from across the state who have resigned from the party, ” he added.

The resignation of these youth Congress members comes after the merger of 12 rebels Congress legislators, led by former Chief Mukul Sangma, with the Trinamool Congress.

Meanwhile, Dkhar has not said which party these members would join following their resignation. However, it’s most likely that they would join the TMC.
