Imphal: Amid reports of fresh violence in Manipur, at least one person was reportedly killed and two others seriously injured in two separate incidents that took place in Bishnupur and Imphal West districts on Wednesday.

Reports said some suspected Kuki militants opened fire at a relief camp that lies between Ngangkhalawai and Kangathel village, which is just nearly two kilometres away from Moirang police station under Bishnupur district.

One Toijam Chandramani alias Names, 32, son of T Ingochou, Churachandpur Thengkhra Leirak, was killed, and one Leichombam Manoj, 28, son of Late Ngamba Singh of Ngangkhalawai was seriously injured during the incident.

Reports further said that armed youths had raided some villages in Moirang early on Wednesday. On hearing the ruckus, some inmates of the relief camp at Moirang came out to see what was happening. During that time, one bullet struck the back of Chandramani and exited through the chest. He was rushed to a private hospital in a serious condition and reportedly succumbed to the bullet wound on the way. Manoj, who sustained three bullet injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).

Officials said the incident at Ngangkhalawai was a continuation of the shooting that began Tuesday evening on the nearby hillsides.

In another incident, one person, identified as Aribam Rishikesh, 31, son of Brajabidhu, sustained bullet injuries at Kadangband near Singda dam on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, in view of the violent incidents, district authorities have cancelled the curfew relaxation in Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts. Earlier, the curfew was relaxed from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m.
