New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), the country’s premier counter-terrorism law enforcement agency, arrested a terror suspect from Churachandpur’s Torbung, the hotspot of current violence in Manipur, in a transnational conspiracy case involving terrorist leaders in Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The accused, Seiminlun Gangte, and his network based in both neighbouring countries waged war against the country by exploiting the present ethnic crisis in Manipur, the investigating agency said in a statement here on Saturday.

An investigation by the agency revealed that militant groups based in these two countries have entered into a conspiracy with a section of militant leaders in India to indulge in incidents of violence with the intention of driving a wedge between different ethnic groups and waging war against the government of India.

Gangte has been providing funds to procure arms, ammunition and other types of hardware which are being sourced both, from across the border, as well as from other terrorist outfits active in northeast India to stoke the current ethnic strife in Manipur, the statement added.

Gangte is also the main accused in the car bomb blast on June 22 in Manipur’s Kwakta village that claimed a person, a statement by Manipur police said. A Scorpio SUV parked near a small bridge had exploded in what was seen as a serious escalation of violence. The attack had the typical characteristics of trained terrorist hands, the TV channel continued.

The case was registered suo moto by the NIA on 19th July this year. The accused has been brought to the national capital after his arrest and will be produced before the Jurisdictional court, the NIA statement added.
