Manipur violence: 1 BSF man killed, 2 AR soldiers injured

Earlier on Monday morning, three persons were killed and four others injured in a gunfight between villagers and Kuki terrorists at Pheiyeng - Kangchup hill in Imphal West district, police said.

Imphal: A fierce gun battle erupted between suspected Kuki terrorists and security forces personnel at Serou area under Sugnu police station in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, resulting in the death of one BSF troop and injuring two soldiers of the Assam Rifles, official sources said. 

“Intermittent firing between security forces & a group of insurgents took place throughout the night of 05/06 June,” the Indian Army said on Twitter. “Security forces effectively retaliated to the fire.”

It said a soldier, Ranjit Yadav, of the Border Security Force from West Bengal died and two personnel from Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force with a focus on India’s northeast, were wounded.

“Search operations (are) in progress,” the Army said.

Injured personnel were evacuated by Army helicopter to Imphal for futher treatment. 

During the preliminary search, “Two AK Series rifles, one 51 mm mortar, two carbines, ammunition and warlike stories have been recovered” from the general area, the sources added.

3 killed, 4 injured in Imphal West district

Earlier on Monday morning, three persons were killed and four others injured in a gunfight between villagers and Kuki terrorists at Pheiyeng – Kangchup hill in Imphal West district, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Angom Romesh, 61, son of late Mukta Singh of Pheiyeng; Angom Rakesh, 45, son of Tembi, Pheiyeng and Pukhrambam Nikhil, 22, of Khundrakpam Mayai Leikai.

Those injured were admitted to a hospital in Imphal where their conditions were stated to be stable, police said.

In Kakching district, four people were injured in Serou in an exchange of fire between two groups, they said.
