Imphal: The 10th edition of International Yoga Day will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, under the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”
The United Nations designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga following a proposal by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 69th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Yoga, an ancient practice originating in India, encompasses physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines. The word ‘Yoga’ means to join or unite, symbolizing the harmony between body and consciousness.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh stated that the International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness and acceptance of yoga worldwide, encouraging millions to incorporate it into their daily routines. He emphasized yoga’s potential to enhance health and promote a balanced lifestyle amid modern life’s stresses.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of a balanced diet alongside practicing yoga. Noting that the United Nations declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets at India’s initiative, he emphasized millets’ role in food security, sustainability, health, climate change mitigation, soil health, and boosting the income of marginal farmers.
Extending his best wishes to the people of Manipur on International Yoga Day 2024, Biren Singh urged everyone to join the global observance of the day.
