Imphal:  The Sagolband Moirang Leirak, Imphal has been declared a micro-containment zone and was sealed on Wednesday owing to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

In a statement, the Imphal West district administration said the sealing of the Moirang Leirak was necessitated after 65 residents in the area have been tested positive with Covid-19 in the last three days. In view of the impending threat of the Covid-19 pandemic in the area, it has become expedient to issue containment measures to prevent the spread of the dreaded pathogen in the area, it added.

Therefore, it said, all the entry and exit from the containment area will be banned for at least 10 days. Moreover, all schools, offices, public gatherings of any type and any vehicular movement shall be prohibited during this period.

The administration also further advised all the people within the area to compulsorily use the Aarogya Setu application for any information and update the situation. Aarogya Setu is the Indian government’s contact tracing app for Covid-19.

It further announced that the geographical area lying within a radius of 150 metres beyond the containment zone/area will be identified as the ‘Buffer Zone’ and extensive surveillance and contact tracing of the positive cases will be adopted in order to effectively break the chain of transmission of the disease.

Any person/institution/organization found violating any of the measures shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the IPC, 1860, the statement issued by Th Kirankumar, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West said.
