Imphal: The Election Commission has informed all the voters, especially young voters, in 33-Heirok Assembly constituency, to produce at least two separate documents of proof of date of birth at the polling station on the day of poll.

The second phase of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election will be conducted in 22 Assembly constituencies on March 5.

The new development comes after the High Court of Manipur directed the Commission Thursday to undertake verification of dates of birth of all young voters in Heirok Assembly constituency.

The documents to be produced by such voters may be a passport, a birth certificate, a Class-10 certificate, an Aadhaar Card, an Election Identity Card, or any other authenticated document certifying date of birth or age, said a statement by the commission on Friday.

For verification of all such young people, separate verification counters shall be set up in all polling stations so that no inconvenience is caused to other voters who face no such issue, being of older age.

The District Election Officer, Thoubal and Returning Officer, 33-Heirok Assembly Constituency have been instructed to take adequate necessary actions. All stakeholders including political parties, candidates, BLOs, polling officials have also been informed accordingly.
