Bishnupur: With the deadline for filing nominations for first phase of Manipur Assembly Election 2022 drawing to a close Tuesday, the District Election Office, Bishnupur received altogether 22 nominations from various political parties and independent candidates from the 6 assembly constituencies in the district.
25 Oinam has the highest nominations amongst all the ACs in the district with as many as 7 candidates in the fray.
Sitting MLA Laishram Radhakishore filed his nominations from BJP ticket, Irengbam Nalini Devi from NPP, Ngangom Shivakumar as Independent, Thokchom Ithoibi Devi from INC, Thingbaijam Swarankumar from JDU, Ashem Babu from Shiv Sena and Laitonjam Brojen from RPI filed their nominations from the constituency.
From 29 Kumbi, Sanasam Premchandra filed his papers as BJP candidate last Friday making him the first candidate to file nominations in Bishnupur for the ensuing election. Former JNU faculty Dr. Khangembam Romesh from INC, former MLA Ningthoujam Mangi from NPP, Naorem Sorojini Devi as Independent, and Ahanthem Sanjhoy from JD(U) are the other candidates who filed their papers from Kumbi AC.
Two constituencies namely 24 Nambol and 28 Thanga will witness straight fights in the upcoming polls. MPCC President and sitting MLA, Nameirakpam Loken who had filed his nominations last Saturday from 24 Nambol will contest against Thounaojam Basanta Kumar from BJP. Likewise, BJPs candidate Tongbram Robindro will lock horns with INC candidate Birla Haobijam from 28-Thanga.
Triangular fights are on the anvil as well in two segments namely 26 Bishenpur and 27 Moirang. Six time MLA Govindas Konthoujam who filed his nomination on BJP ticket from 26 Bishnupur will be seen on a triangular fight with INC candidate Ningthoujam Joykumar and retired Chief Secretary of Manipur O. Nabakishore from JD(U). From 27 Moirang, former MLA and BJP candidate Mairembam Prithviraj, NPP candidate Thongam Shanti and sitting MLA P. Sharatchandra from INC filed their nominations.
In view of the prevailing COVID pandemic, only three persons including the candidate were permitted entry in Returning Officers’ room during nominations filing as stipulated by ECI.
Scrutiny of candidates is scheduled for February 9 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for February 11. Counting of votes for all ACs will be held on March 10.
