Manipur observes Maharaja Narasingh’s 171st death anniversary

The main observance was held at the memorial of the late Maharaja located inside Kangla with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as the chief guest.

Imphal: The State Sunday paid rich tributes to Maharaja Narasingh on his 171st death anniversary. The main observance was held at the memorial of the late Maharaja located inside Kangla with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as the chief guest.

On his arrival at the historic fort, the Chief Minister led his Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, MPs, Government officials and general public in offering floral tributes at the memorial of the king, who along with Maharaja Gambhir Singh spearheaded a fierce war against Awa (Burmese) to end Seven Years of Devastation in 1826.

Later, a contingent of Manipur Rifles offered guard of honour, gun salute and sounded last post as a mark of respect to the late Maharaja. N. Biren Singh then offered Tarpan at Nungjeng Pukhri Achouba and paid obeisance to Shree Shree Govinda Jiu Jalakeli Pala.

N. Biren Singh said that the observance was held to pay tributes to Maharaja Narasingh and remember his contributions in the war against Burmese to regain Manipur’s independence during the hard days of Seven Years of Devastation. It was also organized to spread a message of sacrifice and instill the sense of patriotism into the minds of the people of the current generation, he added.

Responding to a query regarding the ongoing strike at JNIMS Hospital, the Chief Minister said that the strike has given no impact on the normal functioning of the institute and the issue would be sorted out soon.
