Imphal: To boost the economy through agriculture, Vungzagin Valte, Minister of TA & Hills and district in-charge of Churachandpur and Pherzawl, distributes water pump sets, drip & sprinkler irrigation systems Saturday at the office premise of District Officer, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Churachandpur.
The equipment was distributed through the Horticulture and Soil Conservation department during an awareness cum training programme on Micro Irrigation as a part of Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchaya Yojana (PMKSY) for the year 2020-2021.
Speaking on the occasion Minister V. Valte expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Modi and Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for formulating and implementing PMKSY for the benefit of farmers. “The welfare of the farmers is the welfare of the country, the state, and the societies,” the minister said. Cautioning the people on misuse of ‘freedom of speech’, he stated that distorting the speeches of others or telling a lie is not under ‘freedom of speech’ as enshrined in the constitution of India. Instead, the minister asked the people to serve for the benefit of other human beings.
The water pumps and sprinkler systems are made available at a subsidised rate to about 46 farmers from Churachandpur district and 39 from Pherzawl district. The distribution of water pumps and sprinklers will help the irrigation system which will ensure better productivity of different crops. Presently, Pherzawl district focuses on the production of ginger and Churachandpur focuses on the production of pineapple with the aim to focus more on cash crops.
Ginsuanhau Zou, MLA and Chairman, MANIREDA, Pawan Yadav, DC/Ccpur, Mannuamching, DC/Pherzawl and K. Shubhachandra Singh, DO (Hort. & SC) graced the function as Guest of Honour, Special Guests and President respectively.
