Manipur Minister opens Yonex-Sunrise Badminton Champ 2024

The championship will take place from July 23 to 27, 2024, and will feature two categories: Under-9 and Men’s Open.

Imphal: The opening ceremony of the “Yonex-Sunrise 41st Inter District and 68th State Open Badminton Championships 2024” was held on Tuesday at the MBA Indoor Stadium near DM University Campus, Imphal. Organized by the Manipur Badminton Association, the championship will take place from July 23 to 27, 2024, and will feature two categories: Under-9 and Men’s Open.

In his address as Chief Host, Th. Biswajit emphasized that this is the largest badminton tournament ever organized in the state. He noted the growing interest among young enthusiasts in badminton, despite its reputation as an expensive sport. Biswajit highlighted the health benefits of participating in sports, including maintaining discipline and preventing substance abuse and other undesirable activities.

However, he expressed disappointment over the lack of participation among guardians, members, and teammates. He urged all sports enthusiasts to appreciate and encourage the participants in future events.

Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh remarked that sports offer benefits to everyone, regardless of age or gender. He called on authorities to work towards upgrading the sport of badminton to a higher level and wished all participants the best in their performances.

In his presidential speech, H. Dingo Singh highlighted the role of culture and sports in bringing global recognition to the state. He noted that badminton players are also contributing to the state’s reputation.

The ceremony was attended by Th. Biswajit Singh, Minister of Power; Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, Minister of IPR & Health; H. Dingo Singh, Minister of Social Welfare; K. Robindro, MLA, Chairman MANIDCO; and P. Bilash Singh, Director of JN Dance Academy, who were present as chief guest, chief host, and guests of honor, respectively.
