Imphal: The Coordination Committee (CorCom), the umbrella body of Manipur-based militant groups, on Friday announced a boycott of the observation of Republic Day and called an 18-hour shutdown from January 25 midnight.
It said in a statement that the 18-hour total shutdown will be imposed from Jan 25 midnight to 6 PM on Jan 26.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police has started intensifying security in view of the Republic Day celebrations.
Mass combing operations, frisking and identification of people and vehicles were carried out at different places on Friday.
