Imphal: Lui-Ngai-Ni collective seed sowing festival of the Naga tribes of Manipur was celebrated with pomp and splendour at Kapaam, Chandel district on Wednesday.
The festival marks the onset of the seed-sowing season and is celebrated every year with great zeal.
The gods of crops are invoked during this festival to shower blessings on the seeds for a good harvest and general well-being.
Awangbow Newmai, Minister of Water Resources and Relief and Disaster Management, inaugurated the festival and said that culture must be preserved.
He also stated that not only should songs and dance be preserved, but all aspects of our culture as well.
The minister also said that we need to spread peace and show people what peace is. He said that respect is the key to peace. Minister Awangbow also said that our state is one of the most beautiful lands with a beautiful landscape.
Various activities like folk songs, cultural dances, the blowing of the Lui-Ngai-Ni trumpet, beating drums, Cultural dances from various Naga tribes were also performed, as well as the lighting of the Lui-Ngai-Ni fire.
The blessings of seeds were invoked by the Chief of Kapaam.
