Manipur: Lilong attack by miscreants leave 4 dead

Following the incident, the State government imposed, an indefinite curfew in all valley districts while also taking up additional security measures in vulnerable areas in view likely escalation of tensions

Imphal: The first day of the New Year did not turn out to be a harbinger of peace and harmonious coexistence as many wished for, fresh violence left four people dead and around a dozen injured. 

Armed individuals reportedly in police uniforms opened fire on civilians killing four people at Lilong Chinjao on Wednesday evening. The enraged crowd set fire to two of the vehicles used in the attack.

The deceased have been identified as Makakmayum Sirajuddin, 50, s/o Late Lehajuddin of Lilong Nungei Ching; Md. Azad Khan, 40, s/0 Md. Noorjaman of Lilong Chingjao Maning Leikai; Md Daulat, 33, s/o Md Jalaluddin of  Sangaiyumpham Mairenkhun Mayai Leikai and Md. Hussain, 22, s/o Late Habibur of Lilong Tamyai.

Following the incident, the State government imposed, an indefinite curfew in all valley districts while also taking up additional security measures in vulnerable areas in view likely escalation of tensions

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a video message, appealed to the public to maintain peace and not to take the law into their hands while ensuring strict action against the perpetrators of the crime.
