Manipur has 749 voters above 100 years of age: CEC

With over 59, 491 (18-19 years) first time voters, Manipur has a total of 20.3 lakh registered voters.

Imphal: There are over 749 voters in Manipur who are above 100 years of age. The Election Commission will be providing them special facilities, including that of postal ballot service to vote. Senapati district has the maximum number of centenarian (110) votres in the state, said Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra.

Speaking to newsmen here Tuesday, Sushil Chandra, who arrived in Imphal for two days, said that CEO/DEOs will facilitate those senior citizens. They could also be made local ambassadors to motivate others to take part in the voting process, he added. 

Appreciating the State for promoting gender participation despite obvious logistics challenges, the CEC informed that at least 487 All-Women Managed Polling Stations (16.4 per cent) of the total polling stations) would be set up in the state which will have all women polling staff, also including women security personnel in many of these stations. 

The initiative had been taken up to provide a comfortable experience to women voters. 

Sushil Chandra also informed that five Assembly Constituencies namely 13-Singjamei, 31-Thoubal, 14-Yaiskul, 15- Wangkhei, 58-Churachandpur will have all polling stations, managed exclusively by women. 

Apart from these, 115 Model Polling Stations will be set up in the state. The Commission has also directed the Chief Electoral Officer and District Election Officers of all Electoral Districts to ensure availability of Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF) like water, electricity, toilets, ramp at all polling stations, he added.
