Imphal: The Manipur Government has urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from spreading or believing unverified news, rumours, or misinformation that could cause panic or disrupt peace in the state.

In an official statement on Tuesday, Chief Secretary P.K. Singh highlighted concerns over the recent circulation of misleading information through various channels, which has led to confusion and unrest. The government has also observed that certain individuals and groups may deliberately attempt to incite disorder, disrupt communal harmony, and spread fear by sharing false information, inflammatory content, or fabricated narratives.

“Such attempts are aimed at creating lawlessness, and the public is strongly advised not to fall for such misinformation or incitement,” the statement warned.

To counter the spread of false information, the government has set up a 24×7 Control Room where citizens can verify news or reports. The Control Room can be reached at 9485280419.

Emphasizing that maintaining peace and law and order is a collective responsibility, the Manipur Government urged residents to stay vigilant against those trying to create unrest. It also warned that any attempt to incite violence or disrupt harmony would be dealt with strictly under the law.

The press note further called on community leaders, civil society organizations, religious leaders, student bodies, and intellectuals to unite in fostering peace and rebuilding trust among communities. It encouraged all citizens to prioritize unity, understanding, and development for the progress of the state.
