Imphal: The Manipur government Monday lifted the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services—including Lease Lines, VSATs, broadband, and VPN services—in the valley districts, effective immediately.
This decision follows a review of the current law and order situation in the state. According to a statement from the Home Department, the suspension, which was initially imposed as a preventive measure in the public interest, has been lifted in good faith.
Previously, the state government had suspended internet and mobile data services for five days across Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching districts due to violent protests by student groups. The students had been demanding the restoration of the Unified High Command under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
These protests erupted after Kuki militants intensified their activities, including firing and drone attacks on peripheral villages such as Koutruk, where a young woman was killed and several others, including her daughter, were injured. The militants also launched a rocket attack on Moirang in Bishnupur district, resulting in the death of a senior citizen and injuries to five others.
The government has urged all internet users to avoid activities that could lead to future internet service suspensions.
