Manipur Govt declares July 3 a public holiday

Separate orders issued by the concerned authorities on Tuesday announced that July 3 and 4 will be holidays for all educational institutions in the state.

Imphal: Due to the current situation in the state, the Government of Manipur has declared July 3, 2024 (Wednesday) as a public holiday for all government offices, including public sector undertakings, corporations, autonomous bodies, and societies under the Government of Manipur.

Incessant rains over the past few days have caused rivers in Manipur to overflow, inundating several areas in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Senapati, Thoubal, and Bishnupur Districts. The government is actively carrying out rescue and relief operations through the respective district administrations and concerned departments.

An order issued by the Deputy Secretary of the General Administration Department, Government of Manipur on Tuesday, appealed to the general public to stay indoors except in cases of emergency, to allow authorities to conduct rescue and relief operations and evacuate stranded individuals smoothly.

All banks, financial institutions, and LIC offices in the state will also remain closed on July 3, 2024. Separate orders issued by the concerned authorities on Tuesday announced that July 3 and 4 will be holidays for all educational institutions in the state.

However, departments involved in rescue and relief operations and essential services, including Home, Police, District Administration, Relief and Disaster Management, Power, Health and Family Welfare, PHE, Water Resources, PWD, GAD, CAF&PD, MI, Forests, and LDA, will remain operational. Additionally, officers and employees of all other departments will be available by phone for any emergencies, the order added.
