Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has directed State Chief Secretary Vineet Joshi to expedite the appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for Dhanamanjuri University, which has recently faced various issues, including the appointment of a VC.

Additionally, the Governor asked the Chief Secretary to address the transportation of relief materials from the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to the state through Guwahati.

During their meeting at Raj Bhavan on Friday, the Chief Secretary updated the Governor on the measures taken for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in relief camps across the state. Joshi informed the Governor that essential commodities are being provided and arrangements for temporary shelter homes for the IDPs are progressing in both the hills and the valley.

Regarding the situation in Jiribam district, the Chief Secretary reported that around 900 IDPs are in relief camps, and their needs are being met. He added that the District Commissioner of Jiribam has been tasked with assessing the damage to houses and properties to make necessary arrangements.

In a separate meeting, Major General (Retd.) T.P.S. Rawat, President of VARINDERA Construction Ltd., along with a contractor, updated the Governor on the progress of construction works at the National Sports University. He informed that around 50% of the construction work has been completed, with the remaining expected to be finished by March next year. Despite security issues arising from the ongoing conflict between two communities, the deployment of CRPF at the University campus has allowed construction to proceed, engaging a workforce of 450.

The Governor appreciated their efforts and asked them to inform her of any issues that arise, urging them to also coordinate with the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP). She assured them that peace and normalcy would soon be restored, as the Centre is committed to resolving the crisis in the state.
