Imphal: Manipur Governor La Ganesan has expressed deep shock on hearing the sad news of the killing of the Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, his wife, their son and four other jawans in an ambush carried by heavily armed members of a suspected underground group on Saturday.
The attack which took place around 10 am Saturday in Singhat sub-division of Churachandpur district also left five other jawans with serious injuries and three others with minor injuries.
Strongly condemning “the dastardly act of the criminal”, the Governor conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for strength to them to bear the profound loss.
Earlier, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also condemned “the cowardly act” and said those responsible for it will be tracked down. He also conveyed his condolences and said their sacrifices will not go in vain.
Later, he visited Shija Hospital and met the injured jawans and inquired about their treatment. There the Chief Minister directed officials and hospital authorities to provide the best medical care for the jawans.

The Director-General of Assam Rifles, Lt General PC Nair also conveyed his “heartfelt condolences to the families of our brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty in Manipur.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted his condolences and condemned the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy. “Strongly condemn the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur. I pay homage to those soldiers and family members who have been martyred today. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of sadness,” PM Modi tweeted.
