Manipur Governor attends book release function at Govindajee Temple

The function was jointly organized by Shri Shri Govindajee Board, Imphal, JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal and Intellectual Forum of North East (IFNE) - Manipur.

Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey attended the book release function of “Shri Shri Govindajee Gi Phijol (Vesh)” written by Pukhrambam James Singh of Manipur University of Culture and Professor Shukhdeba Sharma Hanjabam of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, Amarkantak (MP) on Wednesday at Shri Shri Govindajee Temple Complex, Imphal.

The function was jointly organized by Shri Shri Govindajee Board, Imphal, JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal and Intellectual Forum of North East (IFNE) – Manipur.

Addressing the gatherings, Anusuiya Uikey expressed a sense of delight on her visit to Shri Shri Govindajee temple during Holi festival. She lauded the efforts of the authors in publishing the book in illustrated colours depicting the costumes worn by Shri Shri Govindajee who is worshipped as the supreme deity by Gaudiya Vaishnavas, on various occasions. 

Through the book, Governor Uikey was informed that the beautiful attires of Shri Shri Govindajee were the result of gradual cultural evolution by the Maharajas/Kings of Manipur since the reign of Rajshri Bhagyachandra. This cultural expression and attire of Shri Shri Govindajee introduces Manipur to Hinduism, she asserted. 

She further said, the costumes also reflect Manipur’s rich tradition of textiles and advanced knowledge of dyeing and dyeing with various indigenous plants, herbs, trees etc. Most of their colours are a reflection of Manipuri life and its cultural expressions. These practices need to be told and kept alive to the future generation

Governor Anusuiya Uikey mentioned that the book is available in various universities and institutions of Manipur and it is also being studied in dance and music courses in India.

While mentioning the evolution of Hinduism in Manipur and rich cultural heritage of the state, The Governor appealed to all for collective efforts to restore normalcy and peace by following the principles of love and harmony so that the tradition of peaceful co-existence continues.

Anusuiya Uikey also took part in the Gwal Aarti at Shri Shri Govindajee Temple after the function.

Prof. Naorem Lokendo Singh, V.C. Manipur University; Prof. Paonam Gunindro Singh, V.C. Manipur University of Culture; Prof. Nongmaithem Rajmuhon Singh, V.C. Dhanmanjuri University and S. Tarun Kumar Sharma, Member, Shri Shri Govindajee Temple Board also attended the occasion as guests of honour and president respectively.

On the other hand, Mariamma Thomas, Chief Postmaster General, North East Postal Circle along with 11 persons called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan today and highlighted the uninterrupted services rendered by the postal department during the ongoing impasse in Manipur. They further discussed the challenges faced in the transportation and delivery of parcels/mails in sensitive areas. The team informed delivery of parcels in sensitive areas is done with the assistance of the Assam Rifles and Central forces. They also mentioned their activities mainly banking services for the people taking refuge in relief camps in the state.

Governor Uikey assured assistance from her office for the smooth functioning of the postal services and encouraged them to continue their dedicated services in the interest of the people.

Akhil Bharatiya Sangathan Mantri, BR Shankaranand along with 4 (four) Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal (BSM), Manipur Prant also called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan Wednesday in the evening and briefed her on their activities in the field of education mainly on the research and intellectuals aspects. The team also mentioned their initiatives in the implementation of the National Education Policy. They further informed the Governor on their continous services for the students and children in relief camps in the field of education.

   The Governor encouraged the team to reach out to the students in relief camps to ensure all these children are not deprived of their educational rights.
