Imphal: A combined team of district police Imphal East led by SDPO Lamlai and assisted by the NAB, Forest Department officials, the 4th AR, and Executive Magistrate, Saikul, Kangpokpi District, conducted a poppy destruction drive in Aigejang Hill Range on Friday.
During the drive, about seven acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed. On the same day, at around 11:10 p.m., one Letsei Baite (57 years old), son of Thongsei Baite, was arrested from Aigejang Village for cultivating the poppy illegally in the village land area.
In this regard, a case has been opened at Sagolmang Police Station for further investigation.
On the other hand, on Saturday, in continuation of the destruction of the illegal poppy plantation at Saikul area, a combined team of District Police Kangpokpi, 2nd MR, 6IRB, NAB, MPTC, and Forest Department, in the presence of SDO-Lungtin, destroyed about 25 (acres of illegal poppy plantation during the drive at Puleijang hill range under Saikul PS.
On the same day, a combined team consisting of the District Police CCP, 1 IRB, 2nd IRB, NAB, and the Forest Department carried out a destruction drive of illegal poppy plantation at Haopi Mollen village and destroyed poppy plantations in an area measuring 74 acres.
The team also reported that an area of about 30 acres was destroyed by the villagers themselves on their initiative.
In this regard, a regular FIR is taken up for investigation.
On the same day, a joint team of Chandel District Police, Thoubal District Police, Kakching District Police, NAB, and Chandel District Forest, led by SDPO, Chandel and overseen by SP, conducted a poppy destruction drive in the Phaisi area of Chandel District.
According to a press release from the Manipur Police, approximately 70 acres of illegal poppy cultivation were destroyed during the drive, as were 14 huts used for poppy cultivation.
