Manipur declares summer holidays for schools from May 1 to 31 as Covid-19 cases surge

An official communication informed that that announcement was made due to the current surge in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state as well as to avoid any kind of unwanted consequences likely to occur in the near future.

Imphal: Keeping in view the rapidly rising number of Covid-19 cases in the state, the Manipur government Monday declared summer vacations for all schools including aided and private schools, affiliated to the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur and Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur from May 1 till May 31.

An official communication informed that that announcement was made due to the current surge in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state as well as to avoid any kind of unwanted consequences likely to occur in the near future.

“All the heads of institutions (Principal/ Vice-Principal/ Head Master/ Head Mistress etc.) shall make an arrangement for detailing at least 4/5 staff by making an appropriate a daily roster of these 4/5 staffs (teaching and non-teaching) and ensure their attendance in the Institutions and to render unavoidable official duties during the period of vacation,” said a statement by T Ranjit Singh, Commissioner (Education School), Government of Manipur.

Further, it is also ordered that all concerned authorities of the schools/institutions are advised to ensure that necessary arrangement/ preparations are made for commencement/resumption of online teaching/ learning exercise on re-opening of classes after the Summer vacation or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

In the worst day for Manipur since the 2nd wave of the pandemic hit the state, five died, 141 persons from the general population and 5 personnel of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) tested positive in the last 24 hours leading up to 5:00 am of Monday in Manipur. During the same period, and 36 persons recovered as per an official release from the Covid-19 Common Control Room.
