Manipur Congress raises Oxygen availability issue

Imphal: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Spokesperson, Ningombam Bupenda Meitei on Saturday raised the issue of non-availability of oxygen as the state faces rising cases of Covid death and new cases.

Addressing a virtual press conference, he said it was unfortunate for BJP Spokesperson to blame the general public and Congress for the Covid mess. The BJP government was not able to share the full data of the crisis he alleged.

Congress President and other MLAs had donated ambulances and the Congress had been raising various demands to the PM, CM to meet the challenges he said. There is a need of having RT-PCR in all district hospitals, instead of Antigen Test, as the rural infections had started rising with a positivity rate of 17%, he said.

He posed 21 questions about (Liquid Medical Oxygen in MT) allocation for Manipur from the central pool, projected demand of oxygen requirement, buffer stocks. He said the Oxygen Express train can reach Jiribam of Manipur to bring the life-saving gas.

The arrangements for oxygen for home isolation covid patients, compensation due to oxygen shortage, status report of black fungus (mucormycosis) cases, government ambulances, ICU facilities in the districts were also questioned.

He asked about the amount sanctioned to buy pulse oximeters and medicines for providing them free of cost to the home isolation covid patients, as stated and posted by the Chief Minister on social media. The arrangements for vaccination, results of the genomic sequencing of covid samples were also asked. The steps being taken up by the state government to prevent the third wave of the covid pandemic in Manipur were also asked.
