Manipur CM praises Mangka for ‘preserving’ folk music

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh praised popular folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam for her efforts to preserve and promote the State’s culture and traditions through her folk music and various performances.

The chief minister was speaking at the 1st Edition of Cultures Connect 2022 held in connection with the World Tourism Day 2022 at Thawai Hou Arts & Event Space, Heibongpokpi, here on Tuesday. 

N. Biren Singh also announced that the Folk Music Festival would also be included as a part of the upcoming Sangai Festival this year. 

He appreciated the folk singer for teaching folk music to young artistes of the State. This has also helped in reviving the aged-old traditions once followed by our forefathers, he added.

Claiming that Manipur has changed a lot with considerable improvement in law and order, the Chief Minister maintained that the State is now safe for visitors from outside the State and added that many tourists too have the desire to visit the State.

Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister L. Susindro Meitei, Director, British Council, East and Northeast India Debanjan Chakrabarti, Director (Tourism) W. Ibohal and eminent folk artistes attended the programme among others.

Performances of Mangka Mayanglambam and Mickma Tshering Lepcha and Ongyal Tshering Lepcha were the main highlights for the programme.
