Manipur CM, Ministers send Kang wishes

The Chief Minister also cautioned the public not to forget to observe Covid Appropriate Behaviour to protect themselves from the pandemic.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has conveyed his greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur, especially to the Hindu brothers and sisters on the occasion of Kang (Rath Yatra) festival.

“Celebration of Kang festival in our State begins on the second day of Engen month of Manipuri Lunar calendar and ends on the tenth day. The main events of the festival include the pulling of Kang, the traditional chariot and the offering of flowers and fruits to Lord Jagannath. People from all walks of life, irrespective of caste, colour, and gender turn up to participate in the procession of Kang Chingba with the belief that holding the ropes and pulling the chariot carrying the deities will wash away all sorrow of life,” said the Chief Minister in a statement.

The Chief Minister also cautioned the public not to forget to observe Covid Appropriate Behaviour to protect themselves from the pandemic.

In his message, Works Minister Th Biswajit said that Kang (Rath Yatra) is observed every year to celebrate Lord Jaganath’s destruction of evil from the face of the earth. The festival begins on the second day of Engen  (Manipur Lunar Calendar) and is celebrated for nine days. It ends with the celebration of Kanglen on the 10th day of the lunar month.

“Let this festival also inspire the people in fighting against the Covid-19 pandemic. As Covid-19 cases continue to surge in the state, let us all be responsible citizens. Let us all get vaccinated and adhere to the SOP like physical distancing, wearing a face mask and frequent washing of hands to contain the spread of the pandemic,” said Biswajit. The Minister also pray for our people to give enough strength to fight all evils.

Th Satyabrata Singh, Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, in his message on the auspicious occasion of Rath Yatra (Kang) which falls on the 12th July 2021, urged the people every citizen in Manipur to kindly adhere to SOP guidelines, get vaccinated, maintain social distancing and take precaution while going out in public.

“Let us fight Covid in true spirit and good faith. Let’s stay safe and healthily,” said the Minister.

Conveying his warm greetings and best wishes to all the people of Manipur,  especially Hindu brethren on the auspicious occasion of Kang (Rath Yatra), Agriculture Minister Oinam Lukhoi prayed for better times, joy, prosperity, peaceful coexistence and inclusive development of our state. He also appealed to people to adhere to Covid-19 guidelines while celebrating this festival.
