Manipur CM inspects construction of 120 ft high statue of Sagol Kangjei at Marjing Hills

Speaking to media persons, N. Biren Singh said that construction of the 120 feet high statue has been affected and delayed due to the pandemic. He also informed that concerned officials had been instructed to expedite the work and complete it by October 2021.

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Wednesday inspected the progress of the ongoing construction work of the 120 feet high statue of a Sagol Kangjei (Polo) player riding a pony at Marjing Hills, Imphal East.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by DC Imphal East, Director (Tourism), officials of the Public Works Department, Government of Manipur and others.

Speaking to media persons, N. Biren Singh said that construction of the 120 feet high statue has been affected and delayed due to the pandemic. He also informed that concerned officials had been instructed to expedite the work and complete it by October 2021.

Stating that the State Cabinet had approved “Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Affected Livelihood Support Scheme” the previous day, he added that the scheme aimed to provide direct transfer of Rs. 5000 to around two lakh individuals whose livelihoods had been directly affected by the pandemic. Maintaining that the monetary assistance would be given in two equal instalments to the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister also stated that the first instalment would be transferred to the beneficiaries within this month and the second instalment would be given by August 2021. 

He further added that eligible occupations include street vendors, farmers, daily wage workers, construction site workers, rickshaw pullers, public transport drivers, school van drivers, artisans, etc.

Later, the Chief Minister inspected the mass vaccination drive held at Ibudhou Marjing Lai Haraopham and Primary Health Centre, Heingang, Imphal East.
