Manipur CM Biren resigns, to serve as caretaker CM

Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday submitted his resignation paper to Governor La Ganesan at Raj Bhawan.

Biren will continue to serve as Caretaker Chief Minister until a formal appointment of a new leader of the BJP Legislative members.

The Governor said, “Chief Minister as a formality has given me the resignation letter from the Chief Minister’s post and I request the Chief Minister to be the Caretaker Chief Minister till a permanent arrangement is made.”

N Biren Singh who served as the first BJP Chief Minister for five years in March 2017 led the BJP campaign in Manipur and was able to win an absolute majority winning 32 out of 60 seats.

The BJP central leadership is likely to decide on the leadership soon.
