Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday asked the Manipur Police Department to submit a comprehensive report on the recent violent activities in Jiribam district by June 11.
The directive, issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, demands an account of the actions taken in response to suspected militant operations and recent violence in the district. It aims to evaluate the adequacy of the measures implemented.
This directive stems from an earlier order dated January 15, where the Chief Minister’s Office instructed the Director General of Police to enforce all necessary security measures to prevent any untoward incidents. This was prompted by concerns over the relocation of approximately 200 armed suspected militants from Churachandpur to Phaitol Village, encompassing areas near Jiribam.
Following recent incidents of violence, including the torching of police outposts and numerous houses, the situation in Jiribam is described as tense but under control. Authorities are actively monitoring social media to prevent the spread of misinformation that could escalate communal tensions.
Violence erupted after the suspected militants allegedly killed Soibam Saratkumar Singh, prompting the deployment of additional police forces to the area. Evacuation efforts have also been underway, with hundreds relocated to a relief camp established in the district.
In administrative changes, Jiribam’s Superintendent of Police has been reassigned to the Manipur Police Training College, while new appointments have been made to bolster security measures in the district.
