Imphal: BJP Manipur unit president Prof S Tikendra Singh died due to Covid-19 in a private hospital here on Thursday.
Tikendra, 69, had contracted the deadly virus a few days back and was undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital. Earlier, he had quarantined himself at his home at Nambol in Bishnupur district. However, he was admitted at a private hospital after his condition deteriorated.
BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda expressed pain at Singh’s “untimely and unfortunate” demise.
“Shri S Tikendra Singh was a dedicated leader, who was always committed to strengthening the BJP in Manipur. He worked tirelessly for the betterment of society. Pained by his untimely and unfortunate demise. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this sad hour. Om Shanti!” Nadda tweeted.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh mourned the death of Tikendra and said BJP Manipur has lost a stalwart who dedicated his life to the service of people and the party.
A former Professor, who worked tirelessly with selfless devotion towards the ideology of BJP was loved by one and all in Manipur, Biren recalled.
“My deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May your soul rest in peace Oja. Om Shanti !,” said the Chief Minister in his condolence message.
