Manipur Assembly urges Centre to abrogate SoO with Kuki militants

The decision was taken on the second day of the 5th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly during a short discussion proposed by the Opposition bench on the excesses, and atrocities committed by the Kuki underground groups

Imphal:  Manipur Assembly Thursday unanimously resolved to urge the Centre to abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) pact with all the Kuki-Zo militant groups. 

The decision was taken on the second day of the 5th Session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly during a short discussion proposed by the Opposition bench on the excesses, and atrocities committed by the Kuki underground groups which are the SoO agreement from time to time since 2008. 

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, also the Leader of the House, informed the House that under the guidance of the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister, the present government is trying its level best to bring peace and tranquility in the state of Manipur. 

Relief materials, food and every essential item which are needed for the “Internally Displaced Persons” have been arranged. He also gave assurance to the House that under the guidance from the central government and with the elected members of the House, he will give all his efforts to bring peace and normalcy in the state of Manipur. 

Manipur State Assembly, today, passed 25 (twenty-five) Supplementary Demands for Grants amounting to Rs. 15,18,83,86,000 on the second day of the 5th Session of the 12th Legislative Assembly. The demand for Grants were Demand No. 1. State Legislature (Rs. 22,41,19,000), Demand No. 3. Secretariat (Rs. 2,36,30,000), Demand No. 5. Finance Department (Rs. 128, 71,37,000), Demand No. 7. Police (Rs. 978,92,42,000), Demand No. 9. Information and Publicity (Rs. 3,32,79,000), Demand No. 10. Education (Rs.28,46,33,000), Demand No. 12 Municipal Administration Housing and Urban Development (Rs.16,39,64,000), Demand No. 14. Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills Development (Rs. 63,99,85,000), Demand No.15 Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (Rs. 12,33, 26,000), Demand No.16 Co-operation (Rs. 2,60,86,000), Demand No.19 Environment and Forest (Rs. 44,40,57,000), Demand No.21. Textiles Commerce and Industry (Rs. 2,70,00,000), Demand No.22. Public Health and Engineering (Rs. 16,48,01,000), Demand No.25 Youth Affairs and Sports Department (Rs. 1,89,80,000), Demand No.27 Election (Rs. 62,20,68,000), Demand No.28 State Excise (Rs. 32, 83,000), Demand No.32 Jails (Rs. 1,29,25,000) Demand No.34 Rehabilitation (Rs. 4,51,68,000) Demand No.36 Minor Irrigation (Rs. 5,04,13,000), Demand No.37 Fisheries (Rs. 1,02,74,000), Demand No. 41 Art and Culture (Rs. 3,64,32,000), Demand No.44 Social Welfare (Rs. 4,75,36,000), Demand No.46 Science and Technology (Rs. 54,86,000), Demand No.47 Minorities and Other Backwards Classes and Scheduled Castes Department (Rs. 42, 00,000) and Demand No. 48 Relief and Disaster Management (Rs. 110, 03, 62,000).

Leader of the House Shri. N. Biren Singh (in charge of Finance) introduced two bills viz, The Manipur Appropriation (No.1) Bill 2024 and Manipur Appropriation (No.2) Bill 2024. While Shri. H. Dingo Singh (in-charge of Labour and Employment) introduced the Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and License by Establishments) Bill 2024 (bill No. 6 of 2024).     (DIPR)
