Malappuram man dies of Black Fungus

At least 15 cases of Black Fungus (Mucormycosis), a rare and serious fungal infection, has been reported in various parts of the state, till May.

Kozhikode: After a gap of three months, one more person has died of Black Fungus here.

Sources identified the deceased as Malappuram-native Ahammed Kutty. He was admitted to Manjeri Medical College hospital with Covid last week and died late Tuesday evening.

He was later shifted to Kozhikode medical college hospital after he was infected with black fungus.

At least 15 cases of Black Fungus (Mucormycosis), a rare and serious fungal infection, has been reported in various parts of the state, till May.
Medical experts say the disease get infected in an immune-compromised condition and for those who are acute diabetic patients. Bloodstain in the nose, persistent headache and numbness are among the common symptoms of the disease, they added.
