Imphal: Major Soubam Kunobabu Singh, from Manipur, is being awarded the Sena Medal (for gallantry) at the Central Command Investiture Ceremony in Jabalpur on Feb 8, 2023. He was the search party commander during an operation.
On September 26, 2021, the officer (of J&K Light Infantry) was tasked with neutralising terrorists hiding in a Nala in a well-concealed position. The officer quickly organised his party and commenced closing in on the terrorist location in difficult terrain under heavy small arms fire. He led from the front with exceptional leadership, raw courage, and bravery; he closed in on the terrorists with fire and moved alongside Lance Naik Stanzin Dorjey and Lance Naik Aabid Bashir Dar.
The officer crawled up to the close vicinity of the terrorists and engaged the terrorists in an intense firefight. One terrorist got injured initially, and at the same time, the other terrorist moved out, pleading for surrender.
The injured terrorist continued to fire heavily on his own troops. Major Soubam Kinobabu Singh again made a quick assessment of the situation and, with utter disregard for personal safety, crawled towards the terrorist under heavy fire and neutralised him single-handedly at extremely close range.
For displaying exceptional leadership, conspicuous bravery, and devotion beyond the call of duty, Major Soubam Kinobabu Singh will be awarded ‘Sena Meal” (galantry) on February 8, 2023, at the Central Command Investiture Ceremony at Jabalpur, according to a press note from the PRO (Defence), Kohima and Imphal.
