Major fire in Arunachal’s Yingkiong market

Itanagar: More than 30 shops including residential houses were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire that broke out at Yingkiong upper market in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.

The officer-in-charge of Yingkiong Fire Station said that after receiving the information, a team of fire fighters along with three fire tenders were rushed to the incident site, while adding that two earthmovers were also pressed into service to douse the inferno.

The intensity of the fire was so strong that it took the firefighters atleast two hours to control the blaze. Besides the locals, the Army, ITBP and GREF personnel also took part in the firefighting.

Around 30 household LPG cylinders burst and three two-wheelers were burnt down, he said. There was, however, no report of loss of life or injury in the incident.

The cause of the fire was not known yet. According to DySP Opir Paron, loss of properties in the fire accident is estimated to be around Rs 4-5 crore.
