Mumbai: State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Girish Mahajan on Wednesday said that Maharashtra State Olympic Games will start from January 2, 2023 from Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mhalunge, Balewadi in Pune.
Mahajan asserted that these competitions will be organized in selected cities of the state according to the type of sports and through these competitions the athletes will get a chance to perform well for international sports competitions.
He was speaking in a review meeting regarding the organization of Maharashtra State Olympic Games 2022-23 was held today at Sahyadri Guest House.
President of Maharashtra Olympic Association Ajit Pawar, Secretary of School Education and Sports Department Ranjit Deol, Commissioner of Directorate of Sports and Youth Services Dr. Suhas Diwase among several others concern officials were present.
Mahajan said that in order to promote various sports by creating a sporting atmosphere in the state, the Maharashtra Mini Olympic competition has been organized to give an opportunity to the players who have shown their skills at the international, national and state level to play in the competition.
These competitions will be held at selected places in the state like Pune, Nagpur, Jalgaon, Nashik, Mumbai, Baramati, Amravati, Army Post Institute, Pune and Poona Club etc.
In that regard, planning should be done through the sports department to fulfill all the necessary matters and provide basic facilities.
Adequate funds will be made available at the government level for this, he added.
