Mumbai: At least nine Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking corporation buses were damaged since last night in Mumbai following statewide Bandh call given by MVA to condemn UP’s Lakhimpur incident in which four farmers were crushed to death.
BEST spokesperson Manoj Varade told media persons that late last night after 0000 hrs, some people pelted stones on running buses at Dharavi, Mankhurd, Shivaji Nagar, Oshiwara, Ghatkopar areas targeting nine buses.
In Mumbai Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule came on the road and participated in today’s bandh and addressed party workers in South Mumbai.
However, the NCP State Unit president Jayant Patil told media persons that it was nothing to do with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government. There is no role of the state government in it. Only party workers were agitating across the state, he added.
While, the Congress state unit president Nana Patole informed the media that people spontaneously took part in the agitation paying respect to the brave farmers, who were killed during their peaceful ‘dharna’ at Lakhimpur. “We demand the resignation of Union minister Mr Ajay Mishra,” he asserted.
In Pune, the youth wing of parties took out a bike rally to participate in Bandh we, party workers were not involved in the forceful bandh, people are doing spontaneous bandh in respect of farmers.
Meanwhile, Central and Western Railway operations have been normal so far, with heavy security and no untoward incident was reported so far.
