Agartala: A special court of North district has awarded a stepfather to rigorous life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter after two years long trials and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
According to the report, 42 years old Sajal Bhumij of Piyaracherra was arrested in September 2019 on the complaint that he had committed rape her daughter in absence of his wife. He was booked under sections 376 (3)/506 IPC and section 4 of the POCSO Act.
The police completed the investigation in a time-bound manner and submitted a charge sheet against Sajal within three months. After a long trial and deposition of witnesses, the court convicted him for the crime and awarded him life imprisonment.
