Life imprisonment for rape and murder in Tripura

Police said Hirant Tripura, a resident of North Ichacherra village under Baikhora police station was convicted for murder after rapping a 32 years old housewife when she had gone to collect firewood from a local litchi orchard.

Agartala: The District and Sessions Judge, South Tripura on Thursday awarded rigorous life imprisonment and fined a 20 years old youth on the charge of rape and murder of a housewife in October 2020.

Police said Hirant Tripura, a resident of North Ichacherra village under Baikhora police station was convicted for murder after rapping a 32 years old housewife when she had gone to collect firewood from a local litchi orchard. 

She was first raped and then killed by the youth.

Based on the complaint of the victim’s family, police arrested the accused on the next day and within six months police submitted a charge sheet against Hirant Tripura under sections 341, 201, 376 (1) and 302 of IPC. 

The court has recorded statements of 17 witnesses during the trial.
After a long trial, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 20,000.
