Kuki terrorists burn down MLA Ranjit’s house in Manipur’s Sherou village

Meanwhile, Laithangbam Noren Meitei of Sagolband Nepramanjor Leikai, Imphal, who was undergoing treatment after bullet injuries at a cross-firing incident at Pheiyeng last week, died at Raj Medicity here on Sunday.

Imphal: Indicating yet another incident of  escalating violence in Manipur, suspected Kuki terrorists burned down the private residence of Congress legislator Kangujam Ranjit Singh at Sherou village under Sugnu police station in the wee hours of Sunday.

Interestingly, Ranjit was a part of the legislator team led by MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand that visited Sugnu and Sherou areas on Saturday where they met local residents to hear their grievances.

Nearly four hundred houses belonging to Meeteis in the area, especially Lanching, Wapokpi, Sherou, Sugnu villages have already been reduced to ashes during the ongoing Kuki aggression against Meeteis and thousands of people are taking shelter in the nearby villages over the last few weeks.

Reports said that apart from the house of the MLA, few others in the surrounding areas were also burnt down around 12 am.

Meanwhile, Laithangbam Noren Meitei, son of L Labango and Laithangbam Ongbi Radhe, of Sagolband Nepramanjor Leikai, Imphal, who was undergoing treatment after bullet injuries at a cross-firing incident at Pheiyeng last week, died at Raj Medicity here on Sunday. 

He received four bullet injuries in his head, the report said. He is survived by his wife, one son and three daughters.

On the other hand, Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday appealed to all the concerned people in Manipur to immediately lift blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur NH-2, so that food, medicines, petrol/diesel and other necessary items can reach the people. 

The Minister also urged the Civil Society Organisations to do the needful in bringing consensus and added that together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state.
