Bengaluru: Gujarat BJP’s Purnesh Modi is a well-known face all over India, for Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as member of the Parliament based on his defamation suite in a Surat court. But yet another BJP leader who was also an important chain in this episode is unknown to the people.
The unknown BJP leader is PM Raghunath, who is also former party Kolar president Morcha general secretary. He had provided all the evidence to strengthen the “Modi surname” case filed by Purnesh in Surat court.
Raghunath also gave a statement which led to the conviction of Rahul Gandhi.
On 13 April 2019, Raghunath had attended Rahul Gandhi’s event in Kolar where he made the objectionable remarks on “Modis.” He had videographed the Gandhi scion’s objectionable speech, and contacted his friend and party colleague Purnesh, who is also a legislator in Surat.
Raghunath explained about the speech and provided the visuals of Rahul Gandhi’s speech and all related evidence to Purnesh.
Thereafter, Purnesh filed a criminal defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in the Surat court for defaming a community.
In one of the hearings, the court had summoned Raghunath to identify Rahul Gandhi and record his statement. It also sought a report from the Kolar Deputy Commissioner in this matter before pronouncing the order.
Opposition Congress has been targeting the Centre and termed it a ‘black day’ in the democracy.
