Agartala: The prime accused of the killing of two minor siblings of a family in Rajnagar of South Tripura has restated the incident today to the investigating police team about how he had killed the brother and sister.
The court sent the accused Sugrib Tripura, a middle-aged man of Gabtali of Indiranagar village of Rajnagar in Belonia to four days of jail custody yesterday and asked the police to submit the case diary on May 17 next along with the accused.
Police said Sugrib has confessed the crime of killing two siblings Hridoy Dey (13) and Rita Dey (11) of the locality. Accordingly, police took the accused to the spot where he has staged the entire scene of a sensational murder, which occurred on May 12 last.
The deceased brother and sister had gone to graze a cow in the nearby forest that day but had gone missing afterwards. Till evening when they didn’t return home, the family lodged a missing diary with P R Bari police station. On the next day, the bodies of the duo were found floating in a water body in an isolated forest in the village.
Based on the investigation, police arrested Sugrib Tripura yesterday and produced it before the court. However, during interrogation Sugrib confessed the crime and said that he had attempted to rape the minor girl in the jungle. Noticing the incident, when Hridoy had tried to save his younger sister, Sugrib strangled Hridoy to death.
“Since Rita was the eyewitness of the killing of her brother, Sugrib had killed her in the same manner so that she can’t disclose anything to others. Then he had carried the bodies to the water body in the jungle, one and half kilometre away from the place of murder,” police said quoting the statement of the accused.
The villagers staged a demonstration in the police station today demanding capital punishment of Sugrib.
