Turuvekere: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday refuted that the next Congress president will be ‘remote controlled’ by the Gandhi family, and said both candidates are leaders of stature.
As Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are set to face each other in thr contest for Congress President, Rahul Gandhi was asked about the perception that the controls would remain in the hands of the Gandhi family.
“There is an election taking place so I don’t want to give an opinion. Both people who are standing have experience and are people of stature. I don’t think either of them is going to be remote controlled,” said the former Congress President.
The election for Congress President will be held on October 17.
Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are set to be face to face for the top Congress post. The election will be held on Oct 17, and results will be declared on October 19.
Kharge, who is said to be the pick of the Gandhi family, had top Congress leaders like AK Antony, Ashok Gehlot, Ambika Soni, Mukul Wasnik, Anand Sharma, Ajay Maken,Bhupinder Hooda, Digvijay Singh, Salman Khurshid, Manish Tewari among a number of leaders as proposers.
Tharoor has meanwhile urged for support promising changes in the present systems of the party.
