Karnataka: Acid attacker shot at while trying to escape from police custody

The police shot at him after the accused allegedly attacked police constable Mahadevaiah while trying to escape. He was being brought from Tiruvanmalai in Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru in Karnataka.

Bengaluru: Karnataka police on Saturday allegedly shot at an acid attacker on the right leg while he was trying to escape on the pretext of nature’s call.

The police shot at him after the accused allegedly attacked police constable Mahadevaiah while trying to escape. He was being brought from Tiruvanmalai in Tamil Nadu to Bengaluru in Karnataka.

The accused, Nagesh, was apprehended on Friday after 16 days of attacking a girl. He had disguised himself as a religious seer. He had been absconding since April 28 after escaping from the clutches of the police.

Nagesh has been admitted to a hospital and undergoing treatment.
The accused had attacked the girl with acid after she rejected his proposal. Both are schoolmates.

In the attack, the victim sustained 35 percent burn injuries.
Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar had visited the girl in the hospital and assured her free treatment. He also promised a job after her recovery.
