Kakching: The District Administration Kakching today joined the nationwide observance of World Environment Day 2026 by organising a tree plantation programme at the DC Office Complex under the theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The occasion also marked the launch of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” campaign in Kakching District.
The tree plantation was led by Angeline Renita R, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Kakching and was attended by Jeeceelee Leishangthem, IFS, DFO Thoubal Forest Division, Okram Sandhyarani, AC to DC Kakching and other officials.
The nationwide plantation campaign “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” also kickstarted today, organised by Zonal Education Office, Kakching under the aegis of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE. The campaign aims to plant around 8,700 saplings across Kakching district under the initiative.
The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Thoubal Forest Division, appealed to the public to participate in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” campaign by planting more trees and safeguarding the planted trees. She also urged people, especially the younger generation, to develop a sense of responsibility towards protecting and conserving the environment.
Also, the World Environment Day was observed by the Zonal Education Office, Kakching, in collaboration with the Kakching Range under Thoubal Forest Division, at 50 schools across Kakching district. The programme was conducted under the supervision of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Thoubal Forest Division. As part of the observance, students, teachers and staff of the Kakching Range planted around 5,000 saplings in and around school campuses.
Tree plantation under the supervision of Thoubal Forest Division was also held at 3 Children Homes in Kakching district, at Waikhong, Keirak, Bijoypur and Pallel, with the participation of Kakching district police, Assam Rifles and Border Security Force.
Tree plantation as part of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0” was also conducted by the officials of Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Kakching Wairi. (DIO)
