Chennai: DMK president and Chief Minister-in waiting M K Stalin on Tuesday announced that journalists will be treated as frontline workers in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement here, he said journalists working in television media, print and radio would get all the rights and privileges entitled to frontline warriors.

He pointed out that personnel from the media, which is the fourth pillar of democracy, too worked during natural calamities and pandemics by risking their lives.

Stalin’s announcement comes in the wake requests made by various media organisations, soon after DMK won the April six Assembly elections, that journalists should be also be classified as frontline workers as has been announced in some states.
