Imphal: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey highlighted the pivotal role of the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) in nurturing the rich culture of Manipur. She made these remarks during the Advisory Committee meeting of JNMDA, held at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Thursday.
Governor Uikey chaired the annual meeting, where various agenda items were discussed and recommendations for further action were made. Attendees included P. Bilash Singh, Director of JNMDA, and Raju Das, Secretary of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
The meeting began with a minute of silence to honor the late Gurus and a former Administrative Officer of the Academy. It then proceeded to elect L. Joychandra Singh, former Director of JNMDA, as the Vice Chairman of the Academy. Additionally, the formation of the Academic and Production Unit Sub-Committee of JNMDA was approved, and proposals for the construction of a three-story multipurpose building for the Academy were discussed.
Governor Uikey emphasized that JNMDA should showcase Manipur’s rich cultural heritage beyond the state and internationally, rather than confining its activities to the annual calendar of events.
She suggested that this would help to promote Manipur’s cultural legacy worldwide. Moreover, she encouraged the Academy to organize cultural programs in relief camps to help alleviate the anxiety and stress of camp residents.
