JD(U) withdraws support to N Biren govt in Manipur

Ksh Biren, JD(U) state President said a letter informing the decision of the JDU was submitted to Governor of Manipur La Ganesan.

Imphal: The Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Manipur unit with one MLA has withdrawn its support to the N Biren Singh BJP led government on Monday. 

Though JDU won six seats, five of them ditched the JDU and joined the BJP. 

Ksh Biren, JD(U) state President said a letter informing the decision of the JDU was submitted to Governor of Manipur La Ganesan.

He said the JDU had left the NDA and the state unit also decided to withdraw the support extended to the BJP-led government in Manipur. 

After the development in Bihar where the JDU severed ties with the BJP, the JDU state unit decided to discuss the matter. On Sep 10 last a meeting was held where it was decided to formally quit from the BJP-led coalition, Biren said.

The BJP won 34 seats in the last elections and has now 39 MLAs with the merger of five JDU MLAs in the 60-member House. It is supported by all political parties except the Congress party.
