Tokyo: The Japanese government at a sitting on Tuesday appointed new ambassadors to the United States, China, and Russia, as well as a permanent representative to the United Nations, effective immediately, Japanese media reported.
Shigeo Yamada, 59, a former Senior Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of political affairs, will replace Koji Tomita as the ambassador to the US, the Kyodo news agency reported.
Akira Muto, 63, former head of the foreign ministry’s Foreign Service Training Institute, was reportedly named as the new ambassador to Russia, replacing Toyohisa Kozuki. The news agency noted that this is the first Japanese ambassadorial appointment in Russia in almost eight years.
Kenji Kanasugi, 64, who previously served as the ambassador to Indonesia, will reportedly take over from Hideo Tarumi as Japan’s ambassador to China.
Kazuyuki Yamazaki, 62, who previously was in ch
arge of Japan’s mission to the international organizations in Geneva, will become the envoy to the UN, according to Kyodo.
